3,500 animals - 1,800 Australian sheep and 1,700 Irish lambs - will be offered for Korban in Singapore this year. Each sheep's price has been set at $490, while each lamb is $14 cheaper than it was in 2015 at $556.

In a statement issued on Monday (Jul 18), the Singapore Mosques Korban Committee (JKMS) added that registration for Korban opened on Tuesday and will close on Aug 28.

Those intending to perform korban can submit their particulars at 26 mosques (see list below). Half the mosques will conduct korban of the sheep, while the other half will offer lamb. Two Malay-Muslim organisations - Muhammadiyah Association of Singapore and Jamiyah Singapore will also be conducting korban.

Hardcopy forms have been made available at the mosques, but softcopy versions can also be downloaded from the website of this year's approved Korban vendor, Mini Environment Services (MES) Pte Ltd at www.mesgroup.com.sg/korban.

"All Korban centres will adopt the same standard operating procedures ... including transporting, handling and slaughtering of livestock at all venues. These standards are in accordance with the World Organisation for Animal Health's international accepted animal welfare and food hygiene standards," said JKMS.
