Generation X (Gen X) consumers (aged 45 years and above) are getting just as savvy as millennials (aged 18 to 29 years) when it comes to seeking and reviewing dining experiences online.
A recent MasterCard survey shows that the number of Gen X diners engaging in online activities before and after having a meal has increased over the past year. In 2015, the percentage of Gen X customers who book dining deals on coupon sites and apps was 34 per cent compared to 25 per cent the year before. This figure surpassed that of millennials which was 31 per cent. Similar growth was observed among Gen X diners who checked for online reviews, from 39 per cent in 2014 to 44 per cent in 2015. There was also a 5 per cent jump in the number of Gen X diners that posted reviews of their meal on Facebook and Twitter.
The survey was conducted between May and June 2015 on a total of 8,698 people, 422 of them Singapore residents.
