Practically all of the new tenants at White Sands Shopping Centre, which began its latest phase of renovations in 2014, are now open. Residents of Pasir Ris and Tampines have a handful more halal options to pick from, including:

Cookhouse by Koufu

There should be at least two stalls here that cater to Muslims, but at the moment, only the chicken rice shop displays a MUIS certificate.

Geláre

Toast, pancakes and waffles especially (half-priced waffle Tuesdays, folks!) are what Geláre is known for, but they also have pasta and sandwiches if you're looking for something savoury. Need something for the road? Pop into PrimaDeli instead on the same floor and order one of their fuss-free pandan waffles to go.

Gurney Drive Signatures

Tuck into halal tzechar dishes like assam curry fish head and gongbao mantis prawns, plus Penang specialties like assam laksa, belachan fried rice and wok fried kway teow at this comfortable air-conditioned space. As of Dec 29, the Gurney Drive outlet at White Sands has applied and is waiting for its MUIS halal certification, but maintains that its suppliers are all halal.

A cafe concept by the popular Abdhus Salam Rojak at Ayer Rajah Food Centre, Ministry of Rojak offers traditional Indian hawker fare like, well, rojak, plus the ubiquitous prata and teh tarik.

Pezzo

The popular Singapore pizza chain now has an outlet in Pasir Ris Central, with its signature Western options like the meat-laden Big Daddy, plus more local flavours like Chicken Rendang and Sambal Ikan Bilis. Most Pezzo outlets islandwide are halal certified, but as of Dec 9, this one's still not listed on the MUIS website.

Rice & Box (top photo)

Not only can you get your fix of charcoal barbecued and spring chicken at Rice & Box, you can also take away bentos like wagyu beef spaghetti and teriyaki salmon or tom yam chicken leg with rice.

Ritz Apple Strudel

Officially halal-certified since January this year, the takeaway outlet serves its signature apple strudel in two sizes, plus other popular items like apple crumble, durian puff and pecan pie.

Secret Recipe

This no-frills family restaurant serves comfort foods from a variety of cuisines, including chicken parmigiana, fried rice, laksa, lasagna, stewed Aussie beef steak and tom yam spaghetti, plus at least six cake options. Try their Turkish Indulgence, modelled after baklava with pistachio, marshmallow and Turkish delight layers.

OTHER TREATS

Halal rotisserie at NTUC FairPrice

Feel like carving a little roast chicken for your family to eat at dinner? NTUC FairPrice is finally back in the midst of Pasir Ris Central residents and so is its halal rotisserie, with flavours like honey, black pepper and creole.

Brand new Pasir Ris Library

If you ask us, those nine months that Pasir Ris residents were left without a reading sanctuary were worth it. Gone are the muted carpeting, awkward couches and music booths - in their place is a more open, young adult-centric environment (second-floor Teens' Mezzanine, techie additions like a digital doodle wall) with a contemporary design reminiscent of the popular Library@Orchard
